Wheelchair Agent Job Description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Under the supervision of the supervisor or manager on duty, the Passenger Wheelchair Agent is responsible for assisting and transporting passengers that need special assistance to and from their assigned gate or other airport location in a friendly, courteous and timely manner.

Agents

  • Assists and transports passengers requiring wheelchair assistance to/from assigned gate and/or from their arriving flights to the FIS (Federal Inspection Service) area.
  • Safely lifts special needs passengers up/down stairs, seats of aircraft and in/out of wheelchairs.
  • Assist with transporting mobility impaired passengers Assist passengers with completing documentation in order to be processed by US Customs.
  • Reads appropriate paperwork to identify name, international flight information, date and special service request details to ensure special needs passengers are taken to the correct gate destination.
  • Assists special needs passengers and unaccompanied minors in transporting and claiming personal belongings and baggage.
  • Reads the airport monitors to determine arrival and departure information and arranges gate for incoming passengers who need special assistance.
  • Greets passengers in a friendly and courteous manner.
  • Uses Tracking system and or by Dispatchers to provide pickup and drop-off of special needs passengers.
  • Communicates instructions and special services to gate agent or other personnel for passengers with special needs.
  • Gathers wheelchairs in the concourse and returns them to the staging area for use.
  • May assist in arranging ground transportation.
  • Ensure all mobility impaired passengers are given adequate service.
  • Coordinate between Wheelchair Staff and Baggage porter provider.
  • Transport passengers out of Customs area to the meet and greet lobby area. (located at arrival level)
  • Transport passengers to their connecting flights/terminals when appropriate.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Drivers

  • Operate TTV’s (Terminal Transport Vehicle)
  • Assist with seating passengers onto TTV’s. (Terminal Transport Vehicles)
  • Assist passenger with hand carry luggage.
  • Complete run slip information.
  • Drive passengers from arrival gate to FIS area in a safe manner.
  • Departures
  • Ensure to check boarding passes of passengers being seated onto vehicles.
  • Assist passengers with hand carry luggage.
  • Drive passengers to designated departure gates.
  • PLUS, any other duties as required by the operations

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be proficient in English
  • Must have a flexible schedule
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License issued by CA (TTV DRIVERS)
  • Must have a High School Diploma or higher
  • Able to stay overtime to get the work done in timely prompt manner
  • Good customer service skill
  • Must be able to stand 4 to 8 hours daily
  • Ability to push a passenger up/down a 6º slope
  • Ability to lift a 350 lb. passenger to and from a seat, push a 350lb passenger, and maneuver 50lbs
  • Must pass a background check and pre-employment physical and drug screen
  • Must be able to legally work in the U.S.A.
